Singers, actors or even high-level sportsmen, many have, in the recent years, wanted to slip into the shoes of a fashion designer, for the better and sometimes for the worse.
Kardashian & fashion : a family story
At the opening of their first multi-brand DASH boutique in Calabasas in 2006, Kim, Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian set out to conquer the ready-to-wear industry. Today, the Kardashian Sisters own several stores throughout the United States. Among the brands sold on-site and on the website are (obviously) the clothing and derivative lines created by them, such as Kardashian Kollection, sweatshirt caps and other merchandise sold-out of the Kimoji app, or the line of their little sisters Kendall + Kylie.
Beyoncé’s multiple attempts
Beyoncé has the reputation of turning everything she touches into gold, only here, in 2012, the diva could have abstained from launching House of Dereon with her mother Tina Knowles. Inspired by the singer’s travels, at the time, the clothes experienced a monumental flop and the brand eventually died out on its own. True to her reputation, Beyoncé had not said her last word and retry the experience in 2016 with a streetwear collection called Ivy Park in association with online shopping sites Zalando and Topshop. This time, the brand meets the expected success and from the day of its release, the body and other key pieces designed by Queen B are sold-out in a few moments.
Booba dresses streetwear fans for the winter
When Booba rapped on his A4 title, “u uva on dressing”, what he refers to is none other than the first letter of his clothing brand Ünkut. Since the birth of its 2004 brand in New York, in collaboration with the American designer Viguen, the Duc de Boulogne has become in a few years a size in terms of streetwear clothing. At first, the only ones to tear off the t-shirts, joggings, hoodies and other caps and jackets created by the rapper were obviously his fans. Today, the brand has offered much collaboration, including with Lamborghini or Nike, but is also worn by international footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Karim Benzema.
Celine Dion scents the bargain
It took time for Celine Dion to realize that there was a window of opportunity. In June 2016, Billboard magazine announced that the singer was about to launch a brand of lifestyle products consisting of a collection of clothing, decorative items, cosmetics and other accessories. For now, the project (and its name) is still kept secret and fans of the diva will have to wait until autumn 2017 to discover the first articles of its brand.
Kanye West : the tycoon of the sold-out
Entering the world of fashion, Kanye West did it with great fanfare. For as long as he has been in the spotlight, the rapper has always proclaimed in fervently long speeches, his desire to revolutionize the business and express his art through the creation of clothing. After several monumental flops with the Pastelle brand in 2009 and two highly criticized fashion shows at Paris Fashion Week (2011 and 2012), Kanye West has become one of the most influential celebrities in the industry. What is the reason? The effervescence caused by the release of the different seasons of Yeezy, its brand in collaboration with Adidas.
Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen : the minimalist empire in 2001
In 2001, when they were only 15 years old, little girls from all over the world pulled out the clothes from the collection “Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen”. Fifteen years later, the Olsen twins are at the head of an empire in the fashion industry. It is no longer a question of multicolored embroidery or crop top with messages, but of a series of minimalist and perfectly cut pieces that these same little girls who have become fashionistas, are snapped up today under the label The Row. “Simplicity and discretion” are the two imperatives of the brand, but also those of the daily lives of Sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley who have now become two fashion designers in their own right at the head of a multinational.
Nicole Richie : fashion redemption
After having spent the majority of her youth celebrating around the world with her best friend Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie started fashion in 2009 and created the brand House of Harlow 1960. Since then, the daughter of Lionel Richie seems totally appeased and has left behind her stormy past and addiction to heroin to become a business woman and a model mother.
